October Objectives

Students will have reading instruction every day. The following lists the texts and focus for reading for the month of October: ​

Objectives: Identify and explain what is not directly stated in the text by drawing inferences; Identify and explain the elements of a story
Text: He's Got Game (Again!)
Vocabulary Words: immense, frantic, dismay​

BCR Question: ​Identify one major problem faced by the main character.  What steps did the character take to solve the problem?  Be sure to use details from the selection to support your answer.


Objectives: Identify and explain what is not directly stated in the text by drawing inferences; Identify and analyze the characters
Text: By the Shores of Silver Lake
Vocabulary: jolting, lurching, dreadful

SR Question:

What can you infer about Lara on the train ride?

A.) She is Mary’s eyes.
B.) She obeys her father.
C.) She wore a brown dress.
D.) She is very helpful and observant.

BCR Question: ​Identify a character trait of the main character. Use examples from what the character says, does, or thinks to support your answer.

Objectives: Use strategies to make meaning from text; Identify and explain relationships between and among characters, setting, and events
Text: Happy Birthday, Dr. King
Vocabulary: stupendous, crumpled, chimed

​BCR:  Describe one cause and effect relationship found in the selection.  Be sure to use details from the selection to explain your answer.
